Massachusetts Teaching & Learning Network

The Massachusetts Teaching & Learning Network (MassTLN) works to improve educator effectiveness by empowering teachers to try new practices and share their results in learning communities. This effort brings together three existing networks—the Five District Partnership, the Massachusetts Consortium for Innovative Education Assessment, and Mass Insight Education—to reach approximately 2,840 educators in 75 schools and 14 districts across the state.

Change Management

The Rennie Center’s Change Management Framework (CMF) is a rigorous, structured approach to planning and implementing improvement strategies in districts and schools. The CMF highlights essential elements of improvement including identifying of a clear and actionable problem of practice; investigating the evidence base; engaging education leaders and practitioners to understand local challenges and build on-the-ground support through committed and trusting teams; and pursuing continuous, result-oriented testing to assess progress over time and take corrective action as needed. The Rennie Center’s CMF is aligned with the principles of improvement science. It also includes a unique and critical aspect of Rennie’s approach: an explicit emphasis on creating district cultures that embrace change. This enables districts to support structured planning processes and build local capacity to sustain work well beyond the duration of individual investments. College and Career Readiness

MICCR supports 15 high needs communities, known as Gateway Cities, throughout Massachusetts. Many of these communities were historical leaders in industry, but have witnessed economic downturns due to a lack of college-educated workers prepared to compete in the new knowledge-based economy. Launched with a three-year grant from the Institute of Education Sciences, MICCR has formed working groups of school and district leaders and university faculty members to help equip students with the skills necessary to meet the demands of the 21st century labor market. Districts are focused on a range of topics including individualized learning plans, academic remediation, early warning indicator systems, workforce readiness, and whole-school turnaround.

Excellent through Social Emotional Learning Networks

We know success in school and life depends on more than academic ability alone. Research shows social-emotional skills have a significant impact on students' academic performance and persistence in school, as well as their lifelong health, wealth, and well-being.

Labor Management Collaboration

The Massachusetts Education Partnership (MEP) works to improve student learning and success through collaborative labor-management-community relations in school districts. Since its founding, the MEP has directly engaged 131 school districts, almost half of all public school districts in the Commonwealth, as well as numerous regional and national partners.

Massachusetts Education Policy Fellowship Program (EPFP)

Massachusetts EPFP is a professional development program for individuals who seek to enhance their knowledge and develop their skills in leadership and public policy. The program in Massachusetts is one of seventeen state sites of the national EPFP program sponsored by the Institute for Educational Leadership in Washington, D.C. The program has been preparing leaders and policymakers in education and human services since 1964.
